Dear Ramadoss

Dear Ramdoss

What's this about your new crusade against alcohol??   You are sadly misinformed if you really think you can do much about it-

-Prohibiting alcohol doesn’t make anyone stop drinking…. It only drives them to procure and 'pelo' in secret. I’m pretty sure its better to have a regulated alcohol industry out in the open in a prohibition-free environment .You don’t want to have a unregulated , underground one on your hands…trust me… that would be a serious health problem..

-The ‘youth’ of India isn’t as starstruck as you choose to believe they are more likely drink because of peer pressure, and not because of Devdas...Moreover I think movies show young guys and middle aged businessmen drinking because that’s what’s happening in real life- so I’d suggest you leave onscreen boozing out of your list to things to squash..

-You and I live in India , for crying out loud, it’s a freaking DEMOCRACY…  and you’re messing with the right to choice … it’s about every person getting a chance to make this  CHOICE- Do I drink or not? Is it bad for me or not?

To get things straight- the health ministry should not tell us whether to drink or not because

1. .It has no constitutional right to do so

2. More importantly- NOBODY will meekly listen and complyJ

What your ministry can do is create awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol… You can:

-         educate school children and college students about what alcohol in excess  can  do to a persons body, life , and family

-         warn people that treatment for alcoholism is expensive

-         warn them that drinking is an insurance liability

What you shouldn’t do is turn drinking into a moral issue to make a medical point. That’s just immature.
